Often everyone keeps changing content to see the changes in their website ranks, but when it comes to search engine algorithms it is always a matter of user intent. Only after the crawler understands there is a need of the source it indexes the relevant content and shows it to the user.

While interpreting the approach of algorithms most of the SEO marketers have seen a very less accuracy rate on predicting the keywords growth. Our research on understanding critical mistakes made by every SEO marketer made us realize that mistakes happen not because of lack of understanding of how SEO works but it is due to frequent updates of algorithm and dynamic change in the customer’s search terms.

Here are some research insights suggested by LeadMirror Growth Hackers to keep a watch on unpredictable mistakes happening while doing SEO

Problem 1: In-consistent indexing of your pages

  • When it comes to the indexing of web pages, If the page does not have proper navigation links and indexing tags then the crawler will skip indexing your page
  • Always check whether pages have been tagged with crawler allowance as by default some pages will have robot.txt tag attached in the header part of the code to restrict bot crawling the website.
  • Also, most commonly pages which throw 404 error are the reason why bot do not crawl your page
  • All the page errors are being monitored by search console and updated every day, here you can check the errors in a page and get suggestions on how to fix them.

Problem 2: Targeting duplicate keywords

  • Many of the times all the pages on the website ranks for the same keyword and keeps bouncing rank for different pages on the same website. There’s been a conventional mistake being carried forward for a long time and now websites which targeted the same keywords for all the other pages had seen their ranks declining.
  • As a good practice, we started building a word map for every page with unique keywords to rank for and then started working on the content. This approach helped us see ranks improving for different pages

Problem 3: Low page speed with mobile indexing

  • For some time now, loading speed has been a critical metric to consider for achieving top ranks in search engines. While code is being optimized internally for many websites still Google considers first contentful paint and images load time in the first 4 sec.
  • From our research, we have found people leave the website if pages are not loading in <3 sec, for this reason, Google is putting efforts to educate more about AMP and how does it help.
  • The general perception of developers is that having important meta being loaded in the first load will help the crawler understand the intent of the website but as per the latest google console updates crawler indexes the pre-rendered page which contains images and important content.
